Overview

Cabin is a travel startup offering  overnight bus service with private sleeping cabins and unique amenities. We were tasked with launching their new brand as well as their booking site. I was the lead UX designer on the project, working closely with the lead visual designer, brand designers, and lead strategist to create a smooth booking experience and overall story.

Discovery

Discovery is often times accelerated when working with startups, and there's a real need to make the best of limited resources. Before jumping into the design phase I spent some time learning about Cabin, how it will service customers upon launch, and what the competitive landscape was like. I interviewed the founders to understand their offerings better, as well as their expectations and needs.

Design

In order to keep up with an aggressive timeline I needed to focus on the more functional flows on the site when it came to delivering detailed wires. Areas of the site more tied to marketing or story-telling were developed in working sessions with Design and Strategy. I would sometimes deliver high level concepts for us to build on and iron out during the design phase.

Homepage

Our homepage needed to both introduce an anonymous brand and a whole new service category to users (no direct competitors yet). I came into our internal working session with a high level wire and concept for us to build on. I felt that simulating the travel experience from start to finish will allow us to clearly break down the offering and at the same time get users to see themselves in the travel journey. A more experiential concept was also a great opportunity for us to leverage animation, our beautiful new branding, and the interior of the bus.

My Account - Trips

I wanted to make it super easy for users to distinguish between upcoming trips and past trips, as well as find primary actions. I also wanted to use iconography for quick recognition to allow users to scan through the page and get an understanding of the itinerary at a glance.

My Account - Profile

I wanted all personal information and settings to be in one spot for convenience. Users don't need to toggle between different account pages to find what they are looking for and can get a full picture of their account with Cabin.

Booking

Users get to this flow after making their selection from the booking bar (available in the global header and homepage). I wanted this process to be quick, painless, and consistent with the rest of the site. In the first step we are confirming the itinerary, price, passengers, legal requirements, and also allowing users to go back and make changes if needed. In the second step users enter a form of payment or choose a saved card, while still being able to see a summery of the itinerary. Users then get to a confirmation page allowing them to download their ticket, save the trip to their calendar, etc.
